The Stockholm-based NGO Civil Rights Defenders wants to take its Finance Department to the next level and is now looking for a Controller to help develop processes and working methods. As a Controller, you are a key asset in the Finance Department. The main focus is to simplify and improve all financial areas in order to get the very best results out of our new ERP system Maconomy. As a Controller, you will be responsible for a number of departments and act as controller for important projects in close cooperation with your colleagues in Stockholm as well as the rest of the world.
Some of the key activities include
Setting up project budgets in consultation with our project and program managers.
Financial reporting of our projects to donors and auditors.
Supporting department managers in budgeting and forecasting.
Responsible for analysing projects and department results in connection with monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
Contact person for our departments regarding financial matters.
Contributing to our work with new reports and improved controlling processes.
Participating in improving the financial work.
We are especially interested in applicants with
A Degree of Master of Science in Business and Economics, or similar, with a few years working experience in controlling and project reporting.
Experience in a project-based work, preferably from a non-profit organisation or consultancy-driven work.
Strong interest in pursuing improvement, big or small.
Experience in managing ERP systems, such as Maconomy.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and a very experienced Excel user.
Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both written and verbal.
About the position
Permanent employment (100%) with an initial six months probation period.
The position is based at Civil Rights Defenders’ head office in Stockholm, Sweden.
The position may include some travel to Civil Rights Defenders’ local offices.

ProtectDefenders.eu is the EU Human Rights Defenders mechanism, established to protect Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) at high risk and facing the most difficult situations worldwide. The mechanism is implemented by a Consortium of 12 international NGOs with the support of the European Commission. The EU HRD mechanism began its operations on 1st October 2015 for a duration of 36 months. ProtectDefenders.eu is seeking to recruit an experienced manager (Head of Secretariat – HoS) to run the Secretariat of the mechanism in Brussels and to ensure coordination of the project implementation and all related financial and narrative reporting.
The mission of ProtectDefenders.eu is to:
operate a permanent and rapid response mechanism to provide emergency support and material assistance to human rights defenders in danger;
manage a support programme of temporary relocation for human rights defenders at risk to relocate inside their country, within their region or abroad in case of urgent threat;
support and coordinate an exchange platform for organisations and stakeholders working on temporary relocation for human rights defenders including through the EU Temporary Relocation Platform;
provide training, support and capacity-building to human rights defenders and local organizations;
monitor the situation of human rights defenders and advocate for a protection agenda for Human Rights Defenders at local, regional and international level;
promote coordination between organizations dedicated to support for human rights defenders, EU institutions and other relevant actors.
The International Service for Human Rights [ISHR] is seeking an Advocate and Program Manager to join their team of six managers. THIS position will lead the work with women defenders and LGBT rights defenders and coordinate ISHR’s engagement with one or more international mechanisms. Applications close 7 March 2014.
Among qualifications and experience requested figure:
A degree in law, international relations, journalism, politics or social science.
At least 5 years’ professional experience working to influence human rights laws, policies and institutions, preferably with NGOs, intergovernmental organisations or governments.
Experience in designing and implementing successful human rights programs, campaigns and initiatives.
Excellent oral and written communication in English with proficiency in a second UN language, particularly Arabic, French or Spanish, being an advantage.
Capacity to travel overseas, sometimes at short notice.
