Video of the “Defending Human Rights is not a Crime” meeting now available

This 5 minute video of the ProtectDefenders.eu 2016 Annual Beneficiaries’ Meeting, held in Brussels on the 29 November 2016 is now available on Your Tube. The motto was “Defending Human Rights is not a crime – #DefendersNotCriminals”.

    I cannot agree more. Being criminalised for saying NO to illegal logging, is a mystery to me and 19 others from the Chuka Community who camped in the forest in 2014/15, together with over 400 other environmental rights defenders, to physically prevent the cutting down of trees.

    For over 2 years now, we go to a criminal court and in my opinion public litigation against criminalization of Human Rights Defenders must be given a lot of weight.

    Personally, a reference to the constitutional court would be a great mitigation against treating Human Rights Defenders as criminals.
