A very early “save the date’ announcement: those who need to travel from far away may want to note that the 2015 Martin Ennals Award Ceremony will take place on 6 October, at 18h30 at Uni-Dufour, Geneva. It is the event that opens Human Rights Week hosted by the University of Geneva from 6 – 9 October.

The laureate will be selected from among the three 2015 finalists, shown in the picture above:

– Mr Robert Sann Aung (Myanmar/Burma) has been courageously fighting against human rights abuses since 1974 despite threats, physical attacks, and harsh imprisonment. He was disbarred from 1993 – 2012.

– Ms Asmaou Diallo (Guinea) seeks justice and rehabilitation for the victims of the attack on peaceful demonstrators by the Guinean military on 28 September 2009.

– Mr Ahmed Mansoor (United Arab Emirates) is one of the few voices within the Emirates who provides a credible independent assessment of human rights developments in the country.
The finalists and Laureate are selected by the Jury of the Martin Ennals Award, made up of ten of the world’s leading human rights organizations: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), Frontline Defenders, the International Commission of Jurists, EWDE-Germany, the International Service for Human Rights, and HURIDOCS. The City of Geneva has been supporting this award since 2005 as part of its commitment to the promotion of peace and human rights.

In order to strengthen the conversation in the social media, the organizers are launching this year a hashtag that we encourage you to use: #MartinEnnals. The ceremony will be streamed over the internet as usual.

Registration is not required but recommended. You can request a reminder online for the ceremony at

    Beste Hans,

Elke informatie is welkom.

En alvast hartelijk dank natuurlijk – ben je nog eens in de Beneluxbuurt dit jaar?
